Made of Heart & Sand
It’s such an incredible feeling to bring a fully functioning prototype to life! The pot stands about 15 inches tall and 9 inches wide, and I’ve designed it to be a versatile, self-watering solution for a variety of plants. Whether your plant thrives in consistently moist soil or doesn’t need much water, this pot can adapt to its needs. I’ve added the option of a self-watering wick, which allows water to be absorbed and carried to the bottom of the pot.
There are several ways you can manage the watering system: If your plant loves water, the wick will do the job for you, or you can use the fountain to control the moisture level by keeping it consistently on. Should your plant require a dry period, you can turn off the fountain or remove the pot from the stand. If the plant does not like to be constantly wet, you can choose to water it manually without the wick. This pot and stand are designed with a hidden cavity between the bottom of the pot and the fountain. This allows any excess water to drain and recycle into the fountain, without affecting the plant. I’m so excited to share this unique, functional design with you, and I’ve learned so much throughout the process of creating it!
This journey has also taught me how to be a product designer, manufacturer, photographer, graphic designer, and marketer. I’ve spent countless hours 3D modeling the design to ensure it stays true to my original vision while remaining flexible enough for the concrete mold-making process. I even created the mold myself, working through all the challenges to make the assembly process as simple and efficient as possible. I photographed the final product and refreshed my Photoshop skills along the way. I can’t wait to send care packages to retailers I admire, hoping to share this product with people who will appreciate it as much as I do.
Ta-da!
